Kazakhstan, UK seek to boost bilateral trade

UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Kazakhstan, Baroness Nicholson, arrived in Kazakhstan with a four-day visit to boost bilateral trade and economic ties between the UK and Kazakhstan, Trend reports, citing the British Embassy in Kazakhstan.

Baroness Nicholson will focus on two major areas - education, and agriculture, during her visit.

The Movement of the Enterprises of France (MEDEF) is following political and economic situation in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to study the best calendar and the objectives that could be used for a possible business mission, Chief Operating Officer of the MEDEF Bogdan Gadenne-Feertchak told Trend.

In Gadenne-Feertchak’s words, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have different economic profiles and their own development models which result in different positioning of the French companies on these two markets.

USAID ready to continue investing in agriculture development in Azerbaijan

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is ready to continue investing in the development of agriculture in Azerbaijan, the director of the USAID mission to Azerbaijan, Jaidev Singh, said at a conference entitled “The Role of Women in Azerbaijan's Agriculture”, Trend reports.

According to Singh, the participation of women in agriculture is an indicator of equality in Azerbaijan, and also opens up new opportunities for the development of this industry.

Within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a seminar on the role of the private sector in agriculture and the food sector has started in Baku, “Trend.az” reports.

The seminar is organized with the support of the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of Azerbaijan (Azərbaycan Respublikası Sahibkarlar (İşəgötürənlər) Təşkilatları Milli Konfederasiyası - ASK) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Private sector in Azerbaijan accounts for up to 85% of GDP

The share of the private sector in Azerbaijan’s GDP has reached 84 percent, 76 percent of the employed population work in the private sector, President of Azerbaijan’s National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations Mammad Musayev said.

Musayev made the remark at an international conference on “Attracting private sector and ensuring investment activity in fulfilling sustainable development goals in the field of food and agriculture in Azerbaijan”, “Trend.az” reports from the event.
