In the current year 2023, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan joined the e-CMR protocol - electronic version of the bill of lading (way-bill), which will help further digitization of freight transport and also help the countries to more effectively manage the growing freight flows and transit along changing routes.

Representatives of the Land Transport Agency of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the "Turkmenavtoulaglar" (Turkmen Transport) Agency under the Government of Turkmenistan have discussed a number of issues related to the increase of freight flows passing through the territory of both countries and the expansion of cooperation between the two institutions, "Turkmenavtoulaglar" reported.

The issues under consideration were reportedly discussed online during the regular meeting of the Joint Road Transport Committee.

We remind you that in the current year 2023, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan joined the e-CMR protocol - electronic version of the bill of lading (way-bill), which will help further digitization of freight transport and also help the countries to more effectively manage the growing freight flows and transit along changing routes.

Here is the place to remind that the war in Ukraine became the reason for the practical stoppage of the movement of goods and cargo along the so-called "Northern route" of the "East-West" corridor, along which trade and supplies between Europe and China are carried out. The "Middle route" of the East-West corridor, also known as the "Intermediate route", which, from being considered auxiliary in the past and neglected over the years, now represents the only working land transport link between Europe and China, has remained relevant.

The "Middle Route" starts in China, passes through Kazakhstan and/or Turkmenistan, and then from Kazakhstan's Aktau port or Turkmenistan's Turkmenbashi port, cargo is directed to the port of Baku in Azerbaijan. From Baku, cargo and goods are transferred on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line to Turkish territory, from where they continue through the Turkish railway network to the Bulgarian railway network and from there to Central and Western Europe, or to the Mediterranean Turkish ports.
