“The situation in the city is being stabilized,” the message said. “There are also many people and cars on the streets. Most of the stores have reopened. Nevertheless, the police cars are patrolling the streets”.

New PM appointed in Kazakhstan

The Parliament of Kazakhstan unanimously approved the candidature of Alikhan Smailov as prime minister, Trend reports citing the Kazakh media on Jan. 11.

Smailov was nominated for the post of the PM by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

After the dissolution of the Kazakh government on January 5, 2022, Smailov served as acting prime minister.

Previously, Smailov also served as finance minister and first deputy prime minister.

CSTO successfully completes peacekeeping mission in Kazakhstan – President

The CSTO peacekeeping mission in Kazakhstan has been successfully completed, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during the parliamentary session.

According to him, the phased withdrawal of troops will begin on January 13, 2022 and will take about ten days.

Сivilians were killed in Kazakhstan as a result of the riots, the exact number is being specified, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during the CSTO meeting, Trend reports.

Some 16 law enforcement officers were killed, more than 1,300 were injured.

Over 1,500 persons detained in Kazakhstan for violating state of emergency

Over 1,500 people were have been detained in Kazakhstan for violation of the state of emergency, the operational headquarters said during a meeting held by the country’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Trend reports on Jan. 10.

The president was informed that law enforcement agencies and the Armed Forces are taking active measures to further stabilize the situation in the country.
