Five hundred thousand people suffer from various forms of malnutrition, and this figure reaches 820 million people all over the world, said the representative of the UN World Food Program in Armenia Jelena Milosevic at the international conference on investment opportunities in food and entrepreneurship development.

According to her, this fact negatively affects the country's capabilities, since the full realization of human potential as an engine of the economy is impossible with limited access to food.

This situation is the result of many factors, including the inefficient use of agricultural resources, which causes other problems, such as emigration, she noted.

Milosevic noted that Armenia has the potential and natural resources not only to intensify the solution to the food problem, but also to become an engine for growth in this area.

There are human resources in the country, but there is a problem with the efficiency of establishing the entire chain of the food system - from food production to consumption, she noted and called for work to restore the broken cycle, which can be achieved through the application of several principles.

It is necessary to take into account the purchasing power of a person. It is important to create the necessary conditions for business through land reforms, improving the efficiency of water resources management and so on.

The UN World Food Program (WFP), in cooperation with the Italian Embassy in Armenia, organized Wednesday an international conference on investment opportunities in food and entrepreneurship development.
