Iran’s Roads and Urban Development Minister Rostam Qassemi said that Iran and Turkmenistan have reached agreements on several areas, including doubling rail transit.

Speaking in the opening session of the 16th Iran-Turkmenistan joint commission on economic cooperation on Tuesday, Qassemi said that the two countries had a multi-billion-dollar trade, but the coronavirus pandemic imposed some limitations.

He said that he had a meeting with Turkmenistan’s foreign minister during which they reached agreements on energy, gas, electricity, and transportation.

Qassemi also noted that he had discussed with the Turkmen foreign minister the possibility of Turkmenistan’s participation in Iran-India-Afghanistan agreement on Chabahar Port to transport goods from the southern port in Iran to northern countries, including Russia.

Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov is in Iran to participate in the ministerial meeting of Afghanistan neighbors.
