Turkmenistan to provide credit to pay for Afghanistan’s TAPI contribution
“We have agreed with Turkmenistan to provide loans to Afghanistan to repay the costs that Afghanistan demands, and Afghanistan will repay in the future with operating costs,” Waliullah Shahin, chairman of the Center for Strategic Studies of the Afghan Foreign Ministry said.

Shahin also said that 7 agreements with colleagues on the TAPI gas pipeline will be signed soon.
He was scheduled to sign 16 agreements to complete the TAPI project, 9 of which were signed before the previous government collapse.
Earlier, Afghan Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Hanafi reaffirmed Afghanistan’s commitment to cooperation with Turkmenistan and the strengthening of bilateral relations.
The $ 10 billion TAPI is a complex project that seeks to transport 33 billion natural gas annually from Turkmenistan to India via Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Construction of the TAPI project began in 2015, when the inauguration ceremony of the signposting route from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan took place in 2018. Representatives of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the location of the TAPI road in September 2020.
The pipeline will connect Galkynysh major gas field in southern Turkmenistan and Fazilka in western India. The project is planned to cross the Afghan cities of Herat and Kandahar, Pakistan Quetta, and Multan before reaching Fazilka in western India.
