Today, December 14, 2022, the highest-level meeting "Azerbaijan - Turkey - Turkmenistan" will take place in the Turkmen city of Avaza. Within the framework of the meeting at the highest level, it is planned to discuss the steps to further deepen the cooperation between the three countries in the spheres of trade, energy and transport.

In recent years, in the general context of the deepening of strategic economic relations between the Turkic countries, the relations between these countries have been expanding in a bilateral and trilateral format. Today's meeting will play an important role in the development of the Azerbaijan-Turkey-Turkmenistan trilateral format. The realization of their transport and transit potential is of particular importance for these countries. The potential of the three countries in the field of transport and energy could turn them into a global energy center.

Joint projects in the fields of energy, transport, infrastructure and logistics expand Azerbaijan's economic opportunities and raise its role on the international stage. In turn, Turkmenistan has large enough reserves of natural gas, and part of these reserves can be brought to the Turkish market through the Southern Gas Corridor.

According to experts, one of the main topics of the meeting will be the export of Turkmen gas to European countries through Azerbaijan and Turkey.

According to Selimkhan Enyajun, a researcher at the Center for Global Governance at Shanghai University, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Turkmenistan will become important countries along the new energy corridor.

Commenting on these issues for the "Trend" agency, he emphasized the special importance of the "Azerbaijan-Turkey-Turkmenistan" high-level meeting from the point of view of the transportation of hydrocarbons, oil and natural gas from the Caspian Basin to Europe.

"This meeting is of particular importance from the point of view of meeting the demand for oil and natural gas in Europe. I think that in the last days of 2022, many productive decisions will be made," Eniajun said.

In addition, in the context of the global energy crisis, new opportunities in this area may be created by the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on January 21, 2021 in Ashgabat for joint exploration, development and exploitation of the hydrocarbon resources of the Dostluk field in the Caspian sea.

Trilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan, Turkey and Turkmenistan will also help to strengthen the Trans-Caspian East-West transport corridor.

Also, it should be noted that new opportunities for diversification of the transport system of the countries of Central Asia along the "East-West" route with access to international markets will be created by the restoration of the transport infrastructure of the Azerbaijani territories freed from occupation, including the opening of the Zangezur Corridor.

In general, this summit meeting can create conditions for new steps in trade, energy, transport between Azerbaijan, Turkey and Turkmenistan.
