Military Spending: How Azerbaijan Surpassed Armenia

Three years after the last war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Armenian-majority separatist region of Nagorno-Karabakh has suffered new Azeri strikes. Baku says its intention was to target military infrastructure as part of an “anti-terrorist operation” and to spare civilians, but observers on the ground have reported a heavy human toll: At least 32 civilian deaths in the space of 24 hours. This Wednesday, the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh accepted a ceasefire with Azerbaijan, after mediation by Russian peacekeeping forces.

Azerbaijan unveils value added growth in non-oil industry in 2021

The value added in the non-oil industry of Azerbaijan increased by 17.8 percent, and in the non-oil refining industry by 21.7 percent in 2021, Trend reports referring to Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov’s message on Twitter.

The share of non-oil industry in non-oil GDP reached 9.6 percent in 2021, which is higher than in 2020 (8.5 percent) and 2019 (7.6 percent).

Private sector in Azerbaijan accounts for up to 85% of GDP

The share of the private sector in Azerbaijan’s GDP has reached 84 percent, 76 percent of the employed population work in the private sector, President of Azerbaijan’s National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations Mammad Musayev said.

Musayev made the remark at an international conference on “Attracting private sector and ensuring investment activity in fulfilling sustainable development goals in the field of food and agriculture in Azerbaijan”, “Trend.az” reports from the event.
