The Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Armenia, Hrayr Tovmasyan (Grair Tovmasyan), has been charged. According to “Trend.az”, which refers to the Armenian media, human rights activist Ruben Melikyan said this.

“For now, I don't know on which article the charge is based, but according to the information I have, he has been charged”, said Melikyan.

It should be noted that since the morning of December 27, 2019, investigators from the Armenian Special Investigation Service have questioned Tovmasyan.

At the same time, an action in support of Tovmasyan began in front of the courthouse.

On December 26, 2019, the President of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, signed the law to supplement and amend the act "On the Constitutional Court".

The law provides the granting of pensions, with the amount of their previous salary to the current members of the Constitutional Court, in case they resign voluntarily by 31 January 2020.

The opposition parties consider that the law constitutes a bribe for the constitutional judges, to allow the authorities to free up seats for “their” members of the Constitutional Court
