Kazakhstan intends to increase the volume of oil transportation via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline to 1.7 million tons this year.

This was announced by the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Erlan Akkenzhenov at a press conference dedicated to the implementation of the President's instructions in the energy sector, Trend reports with reference to the Government of Kazakhstan.

According to the minister, Kazakhstan sent about 1.4 million tons of oil via the BTC route in 2024.

"In 2025, we plan to increase this volume to 1.7 million tons. In the first six months alone, about 800 thousand tons were sent via this route," Akkenzhenov noted.

He stressed that the BTC route remains one of the key alternative export routes for Kazakh oil, and work to expand its use continues.

It should be noted that currently the pipeline mainly transports oil from the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) block of fields and condensate from Shah Deniz. In addition, it continues to transport volumes of oil and condensate from other regions of the Caspian Sea - from Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, as well as additional volumes produced by SOCAR in Azerbaijan.
