The funeral of Father Hovsep Petoyan in Qamishli.
Pope Francis joined the thousands of Catholics, mourning the death of a Catholic priest in Syria.
“I am close to Armenian Catholics of Qamishli, in Syria, as they gather for the funeral of their parish priest, Father Hovsep Bedoyan, who was killed yesterday together with his father. I pray for them, their families, and for all Christians in Syria”, he wrote in Twitter.
On November 11, 2019, the spiritual shepherd of the Armenian Catholic Church in Qamishli, Priest Hovsep Petoyan and his father, Priest Abraham Patoyan, were killed on the way to Deir az Zour, where they were going to watch the restoration work of the local Catholic temple. A deacon from the Armenian Catholic Church was also injured in the terrorist act. According to some reports, the “Islamic State” has claimed responsibility for the killing of the cleric.
The Foreign Ministry of Armenia has strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Syria.
