The Minister of Energy of Bulgaria - Rosen Hristov had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan - Parviz Shahbazov. This was reported by Trend.az agency on August 31, 2022, referring to the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy.

The parties discussed the terms for starting commercial supplies of Azerbaijani gas to Bulgaria via the IGB interconnector.

"Shahbazov noted that from October 1, 2022, Azerbaijani gas will be supplied to Bulgaria via the IGB (Greece-Bulgaria) interconnector. Another topic that was touched upon in the conversation was the technical possibility of supplying additional volumes of natural gas to Bulgaria," says the announcement of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The Ministry reminded that last week Hristov announced the resumption of negotiations with Azerbaijan to increase the supply of natural gas to Bulgaria in order to provide and guarantee the necessary volumes for the heating season.

We remind you that the IGB will ensure the transportation of natural gas and supplies from new sources, which makes it a key element in Bulgaria's energy security and part of the national plan for the diversification of gas sources. The throughput of the gas pipeline amounts to three billion cubic meters of natural gas, with the possibility of increasing it to five billion cubic meters of gas. Half of the interconnect bandwidth is already reserved.
