Azerbaijan forsees boost in Middle Corridor’s transit capacity, thanks to Zangezur Corridor

The implementation of the Zangezur Corridor project will expand the capacity of the Middle Corridor by 8-10 million tons per year, said Rahman Hummatov, Deputy Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

He made the remark during a presentation of the Middle Corridor study compelled by the World Bank held today in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The 330-kV “Jabrayil” junction substation is not only the largest substation in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, but also a strategic energy hub, Spokesperson for AzerEnergy OJSC Teymur Abdullayev told Trend.

Implementation of the project covering transfer of green energy from Azerbaijan to Romania and Hungary through Georgia and the Black Sea continues, Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said, Trend reports via the ministry.

The construction of the Horadiz-Aghband railway in Azerbaijan rapidly continues, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Rovshan Rustamov told reporters on December 12, Trend reports.

According to Rustamov, over 40 percent of this route has already been completed.

"Throughout this route, all work on clearing mines has been completed. In parallel, work is underway to create security zones," he said.

Iran Aims to Swap Turkmen Gas to Azerbaijan

Tehran and Baku have agreed on swap gas supplies to Azerbaijan via Iran from neighboring countries, including Turkmenistan, the Iranian Minister of Petroleum Javad Owji said on Sunday in Tehran following the talks with visiting Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev.

„A constructive meeting was held with the Azerbaijani delegation and important agreements were reached”, the Shana news agency quoted Owji as saying.

On 12 July the armed forces of Armenia, using artillery, attempted to attack and seize positions of the armed forces of Azerbaijan, in the direction of the district of Tovuz along the state border between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The armed forces of Azerbaijan were forced to retaliate by launching counter-offensive measures, preventing the advancement of the Armenian armed forces. As a result of the combat, four servicemen of the Azerbaijani army were killed and four were injured.
