Azerbaijan's Defense Minister Hasanov tells EU Special Representative about the policy of Armenia

During his meeting with the EU Special Representative, the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan reiterated that Armenia occupies 20 percent of the territory of Azerbaijan. He added that the negotiation process up to this moment remains fruitless.

On October 31, 2019, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov, met with an EU delegation in Azerbaijan, headed by the European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus and on the crisis in Georgia - Toivo Klaar.

According to the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, during the meeting there was an exchange of views on the situation on the frontline and on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border. 

Zakir Khasanov reiterated that Armenia occupies 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, a fact recognized by the international community. He added that the negotiation process up to this moment remains fruitless.

Azerbaijan's defense minister emphasized that "Armenia's destructive stance is a major obstacle to theprogress in the settlement of the conflict".

On his turn, Toivo Claar noted the importance of resolving the conflict as soon as possible and in a peaceful way, in order to secure stability in the South Caucasus region. He underlined that the European Union is in favor of continuing negotiations in this direction.
