Iran and Azerbaijan will connect their motor and rail highways

According to Mohammad Eslami, Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, an agreement has already been reached on linking Iran's highways with Azerbaijan. The Islamic Republic of Iran and Azerbaijan will connect their highways and railways.

According to the “Azerbaijan Press Agency” (“Azəri Press Agentliyi” - APA), the Minister of Roads and Urban Development - Mohammad Eslami, stated this in an interview with journalists during his visit to Astara today.

According to the Iranian minister, an agreement has already been reached on connecting the two highways.

He noted that the improvement of the Rasht - Astara railway is one of the important projects, being carried out by Iranian President - Hassan Rouhani.

Mohammad Eslami praised the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran in the field of transport and said that the increase in the volumes of transit and trade had a positive impact on the relations between the two countries.

He also mentined that an agreement was reached between Iran and Azerbaijan on the construction of the Baku - Astara - Rasht highway and on the connection of the two highways:

“A new bridge over the Astarchay River will be built for this purpose. The foundations of the new bridge will be constructed soon”.

Mohammad Eslami also said, that the highway that currently reaches Rasht, will be extended to Astara and then to Ardabil.
