Bulgaria will receive 440 million cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan starting from July to December 2022, announced the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Bulgaria - H.E. Mr. Huseyn Huseynov.

"Bulgaria and Azerbaijan have a contract for the supply of one billion cubic meters of gas per year. As of December 31, 2020, Azerbaijani natural gas is delivered to Bulgaria via an alternative route via Nea Mesemvria [because commercial deliveries via the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector have not yet started]. Immediately after the commissioning of the IGB gas pipeline, Bulgaria will start receiving natural gas from Azerbaijan through the point in Komotini, from where the gas will be delivered in full volume at an agreed price," the ambassador said.

Huseinov indicated that from July 1, 2022, approximately 2.6 million cubic meters of natural gas per day are imported into Bulgaria, which is the initially agreed full volume.

"Furthermore, in order to import additional volumes of natural gas to Bulgaria, Bulgargaz must co-ordinate with the company - supplier from Azerbaijan, some technical and commercial aspects of the supplies," explained the ambassador.

We remind you that the IGB will ensure the transportation of natural gas and supplies from new sources, which makes it a key element of Bulgaria's energy security and part of the national plan for diversification of natural gas sources. The throughput of the gas pipeline will amount to three billion cubic meters with the possibility of reaching five billion cubic meters. Half of the throughput of the interconnector is already reserved.
