Azercosmos plans to launch Azersky 2 satellite as the first major satellite project developed in Azerbaijan

„Within the framework of this program, our specialists will gain new knowledge. They will work with satellite manufacturers to learn how to design, assemble and test a satellite at the factory. After that, these specialists will launch the second satellite of the program in Azerbaijan. This will be the first large and serious satellite project developed in our country. For this, we are creating the Spacecraft Integration and Testing Center“, Dunay Badirkhanov stated.

Many years ago, when our satellite was sent into space, foreign engineers were involved in this work, since there were very few local specialists in our country. However, at present, the training of specialists in satellite control is carried out in Azerbaijan by the “Azercosmos” company, and the role of the Azerbaijan Engineering Academy in this process cannot be overestimated.

This was stated by Acting Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Space Agency („Azercosmos“) Dunay Badirkhanov during a speech at an event on the occasion of World Engineering Day, Trend reports.

„When Azercosmos began its operations in 2013, it had about 80 employees. Currently, Azercosmos has more than 230 employees, 35 percent of whom are women“, added D. Badirkhanov.

Speaking about the „Azersky 2“ program, he noted that the main goal of the program is to launch two high-resolution optical satellites of Azerbaijan in accordance with new requirements.

For this, we are creating the Spacecraft Integration and Testing Center“, he added.

In addition, Dunay Badirkhanov noted that the services of the Baku teleport via C and Ku-bands can be provided to regions of Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa.
