A member of the Energy Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly said that the gas swap between Iran, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan shows the strong will of the Ministry of Petroleum in economic and energy diplomacy. The trilateral contract on the swapping of gas between Iran, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan will help strengthen Iran's friendly relations with neighboring countries, Iranian MP Hadi Beiginejad told Shana News Agency.
The MP noted that the gas swapping will be a positive step in Iran's energy diplomacy with neighboring countries.Beiginejad added that Iran's economic relations with neighboring countries should be further strengthened.
In an interview with Shana, Hadi Beiginejad referred to the tripartite agreement on gas swaps between Iran, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and said:
“The signing of this agreement showed that we must have the will to do some things. The Ministry of Petroleum showed strong will to have such agreements”.
He added: „This agreement will be both economically beneficial for us and will help strengthen friendly relations with neighboring countries, although economic relations with neighbors should be further developed”.
A tripartite contract on the swapping of 1.5-2 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas to Azerbaijan through Iran per year was signed on November 28, 2021, in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on the sidelines of the 15th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
