What I have said on the subject is easiest to be seen by watching the talk show, but here I would like to emphasize a few things:
The reason for the lecture was the second meeting in "Rammstein format", which was called "Rammstein 2". The most important thing in this meeting is that it is already part of an agreed regular, monthly series of meetings. After "Rammstein 2" there will be "Rammstein 3, 4, 5 ..." and so on, depending on how long the war will last.
After this meeting, it became clear that with more than 40 countries participating (some point to the number 47), this month 20 of them will make a very real supply of completely real weapons. There will also be American volley fire systems and Harpoon anti-ship missiles, this time thanks to the decision of the Danish presidency.
Indeed, there is a constant suspicion in the air that the West is slowing things down, the West is not doing something right, and so on. Every day I have to comment on all sorts of fakes in this context. It is clear that we all want things to be even faster and more efficient, but one can hardly doubt that the epic heroism of Ukrainian soldiers has long been supplemented by constant, very serious and very timely help - and in arms and in money and in other resources.
This is a huge help not only from NATO countries, but from the West in general, because both neutral Sweden and neutral Finland and even neutral Switzerland allow themselves the luxury of providing very serious and timely assistance to Ukraine.
The Czech Republic, pointed almost as a Russian ally (mostly because of President Milos Zeman's behavior), a country accused of selling Western weapons to Russia since the annexation of Crimea and the start of the war in eastern Ukraine in 2014, is now delivering of Ukraine armored vehicles and ammunition, and President Zeman praised the behavior of the Russians with the words: "They are crazy."
Of course, the way Western leaders think differs from that of Putin and Co. In the West, the main priority is to limit human casualties, and why not material damage. That is why it is worth having not only an 80-minute but also a 180-minute conversation with Putin. The problem is that there is currently no basis for negotiations.
Humiliated by the failures so far in Kyiv, Kharkov, Nikolaev, and apart from the "war with a separate plant" in Mariupol, Putin will not sit on the table of negotiations or stop hostilities until there is some result to be declared victory.
It is very difficult for the Ukrainian side to stop the war and to allow parts of its territory to remain occupied. Ukrainians know that there is no legal international judicial mechanism for Russia to acquire the occupied territories, but that does not mean that the occupation cannot continue unacceptably long.
Armenia has detained the seven Azerbaijani regions around Nagorno-Karabakh for 30 years. Azerbaijan took them back legally and in accordance with the UN Charter, but had to prepare its army for three decades. In Ukraine, they would hardly agree to wait that long.
Therefore, at the moment, peacekeeping efforts are more to calm the conscience of peacekeepers than because there is a real chance that the parties will gather around the table of negotiations.
But although some people explain that Russia has given up the maneuver war and returned to the "Syrian model", things are now fundamentally different. In Syria, the opposition forces to the dictator Bashar al-Assad in all their colours has been left largely to fend for themselves. The assistance to Assad from Iran and Russia was growing, while aid to the opposition was progressively declining. The result was seen.
In Ukraine, the opposite is true. We said at the beginning that there would be as many Rammstein-format meetings as there were months of the war. For now, both President Biden and European leaders have managed to move on the “edge of the razor” and give Ukraine as much as possible, which will not provoke an uncontrolled reaction from the Russian side, accompanied by the formation of mushroom-like clouds erupting from the ground.
