A Green School for a Green Future

The day slipped by imperceptibly. A wonderful day filled with creativity in the Studio and with games and banter in the beautiful nature in the surroundings of the village of Lokorsko. We parted with the promise that this was just the beginning of a future tradition.

What you see in the pictures is a Green School - the art for a Green Future.

Eighth-graders and teachers from 31 SUCHEM "Ivan Vazov", Sofia, create in Atelier "Support" in the village of Lokorsko.

A wonderful initiative of the "Support for Debut" association and the management of 31 secondary schools with foreign language and management learning "Ivan Vazov", Sofia.

Carried out with the support of the National Fund "Culture", program "Amateur art", and with the courtesy of the grandmothers from the retirement club of the village of Lokorsko.

Together with the deputy director of the educational part, Zornitsa Kaneva, we specified the program and the creative activities, the crafts, in which to “initiate” the students. We specified the arrival schedule, distribution of the four groups by activities - two of them to work in the two halls, the other two groups to make transitions successively to the dams and to the chapel above the village. After which to change their roles. So that everyone has the opportunity to study and practice a craft, but also to play sports in nature.

In the Atelier, we introduced the young people to the magic of ceramic art - ceramics using the furshe technique with the master ceramicist Dolya Andreeva, using the sgraffito ceramics technique and on the potter's wheel with the ceramic artist Yagodinka Lazarova.

In the hall provided to us by the pensioners' club in the village, we involved the young people in our applied Green idea - design of ornaments and accessories from waste pieces of textiles and leather, from cord, yarn and ceramic balls, with designers Svetla Dimitrova and Katya Martinova.

The grandmothers welcomed the children with an abundance of early cherries, plums and fruit sweets and indulged in their traditional art - knitting “shopski” socks and embroidering tapestries. The children tasted the feast, but they emphasized creativity more, took turns and worked.

The day slipped by imperceptibly. A wonderful day filled with creativity in the Studio and with games and banter in the beautiful nature in the surroundings of the village of Lokorsko.

We parted with the promise that this was just the beginning of a future tradition.

The eighth graders, numbering 123 students and their teachers, left enriched with knowledge and empathy for traditional applied art.
And we were left with the feeling that we sowed the seed of curiosity towards traditional intangible culture, that we ignited a spark for applied creativity in yet another group of young people, for involving them in the revival of crafts with application in modern life, in order to preserve them for future generations.
