“In ancient times, Nagorno-Karabakh was Azerbaijani territory. On all ancient maps and on the maps of Tsarist Russia, all toponyms in Nagorno-Karabakh are of Azerbaijani origin”, President Ilham Aliyev stated, during the opening of the Second Summit of Religious Leaders.
Nagorno-Karabakh has always been an integral part of Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev said, during the opening of the Second Summit of Religious Leaders.
“In ancient times, Nagorno-Karabakh was Azerbaijani territory. On all ancient maps and on the maps of Tsarist Russia, all toponyms in Nagorno-Karabakh are of Azerbaijani origin”, stated President Aliyev, quoted by “Interfax Azerbaijan”.
The Head of State noted that in the 19-th century a resettlement (migration) began [of Armenians, ed.] to Karabakh, which led to a change in the national composition of the region in the early 20-th century.
Ilham Aliyev added that the Bolsheviks, when raising the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh, stated in the documents that “Karabakh should remain in Azerbaijan, and not to be given to Azerbaijan”.
