"Bulgaria and Azerbaijan can start exchanging electricity for natural gas. Bulgaria is one of the largest producers of electricity in the region, while the majority of [energy] sites in Azerbaijan run entirely on gas. In the case if our country guarantees electricity supplies, Azerbaijan can undertake to redirect the freed volumes of natural gas to Bulgaria," the Ministry of Economy and Industry of Bulgaria stated.

Azerbaijan and Bulgaria discussed the possibility of exchanging electricity for natural gas, the Azerbaijani and Bulgarian media reported.

The issue was discussed during the meetings of the acting Minister of Economy and Industry - Nikola Stoyanov in Baku.

As Nikola Stoyanov noted, this is another opportunity to diversify Bulgaria's economy, especially on the eve of the winter season.

We remind you that from October 1, 2022, the beginning of commercial operation of the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector (IGB) is expected, which provides for the transfer of one billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas per year.
