Georgian Prime Minister's Special Representative for Relations with Russia - Zurab Abashidze, has said that the opening of a road linking the Chechen village of Itum-Kale and the Georgian Shatili is not planned. Moreover, such a question has never been discussed, Minval.az reports, citing Kvira.ge.

Abashidze thus commented on the call of the Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov to open the road between the two villages, mentioned above.

“We hear such statements from time to time. This issue has never been discussed. In no form. Nothing is planned. There were no such talks with the Russian government”, Zurab Abashidze stressed.

According to Russia's Rambler.ru site, some time ago, Kadyrov called the opening of the road between Itum-Kale in Chechnya and Shatili in Georgia "politically significant." According to Kadyrov, the journey from Itum-Kali to Georgia takes 40-50 minutes by car, and from Georgia, you can travel further to Turkey and to Europe.

The Chechen leader has expressed his hope, that on the scene will emerge Georgia's leaders with "knowledge of history" who will therefore agree to the construction of the road.

Kadyrov has expressed his confidence that in the future the road will be cleared and will be transformed into a "modern, friendly road" that connects Moscow, Tbilisi and Ankara through ... Grozny.
