Prof. Namik Aliyev: „Azerbaijan has the sovereign right to establish border checkpoints on its side of the state border with Armenia, even if it is still conditional. By any international standards, the country is also under no obligation to withdraw its armed forces from the Lachine Road. The checkpoint in Lachin is located on the territory of Azerbaijan, our armed forces are located on Azerbaijani territory“.

The decision of the International Court of Justice was expected. The appeal of the Armenians to the court on these matters was of „very good sense“.

Thus, the international legist and diplomat Namik Aliyev commented to Day.Az the rejection by the court in The Hague of Armenia's claim regarding the removal of the Azerbaijani checkpoint and the armed forces of Azerbaijan as a whole from the Lachine road.

As the legist noted, [the Armenians] managed to come up with this - to request a decision of the International Court of Justice on issues within the competence of the Republic of Azerbaijan! A normal man of law wouldn't think of that. The legal consciousness of Armenian legists is damaged by a nationalist, Nazi ideology based on a mythical history, noted Namik Aliyev.

„Azerbaijan has the sovereign right to establish border checkpoints on its side of the state border with Armenia, even if it is still conditional. By any international standards, the country is also under no obligation to withdraw its armed forces from the Lachine Road. The checkpoint in Lachin is located on the territory of Azerbaijan, our armed forces are located on Azerbaijani territory.

The Armenian side avoids the delimitation and demarcation of the border by all means again due to unhealthy ideology and a bias to myths. Armenia is an aggressor country, which for 30 years kept 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territories under occupation, and now it is simply burning with revenge sentiments.

So Azerbaijan has every reason to take care of its security and take measures to prevent new aggression from the Armenian side. In the absence of confidence in the Republic of Armenia, all actions of Azerbaijan are justified and no one's consent is needed for this. Everything is within the legal framework“, emphasized the international legist.
